Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted the Sarajevo Security Conference, where experts highlighted drone proliferation and officials announced new domestic defense facilities.

The fourth Sarajevo Security Conference and the First Balkan Shield 2026 defense exhibition gathered over 300 security and diplomatic experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina to address European defense issues.

During discussions, EUROCONTROL military adviser Major General Karsten Stoye identified low-altitude drones as the chief new threat to European airspace safety over the next five years. Addressing naval strategy, NATO Rear Admiral Van Zanten emphasized the integration of artificial intelligence and uncrewed platforms, stating that "the future belongs to drones."

Concurrently, officials from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced the upcoming opening of two new military production plants. Government representatives noted that domestic defense output doubled over the past three years, aiming to boost international exports and bolster national security.
