Safran limits fighter engine plans as wildfires approach French defense sites

Safran will not develop a separate fighter engine for Germany, while wildfires near Bordeaux threaten French nuclear and military manufacturing facilities.
French defense engine manufacturer Safran has announced it will prioritize France’s strategic roadmap for sixth-generation fighter jets, refusing to allocate resources to a separate engine variant for Germany. Safran Chief Executive Officer Olivier Andriès stated, "We will obviously prioritize the French roadmap. We will not have the resources to build two separate versions of the engine." The stance leaves any independent German next-generation fighter program without French engine support.
Simultaneously, extensive wildfires in western France near Bordeaux have destroyed over 42,000 hectares of forest, threatening vital defense infrastructure. Active flames reached within four to 16 kilometers of sites run by major industrial group ArianeGroup, which manufactures solid-fuel motors for France's nuclear deterrent, as well as facilities supporting Rafale fighter jet production.
