Russian strikes hit Ukrainian cities as political pressure mounts on Zelensky
Deadly Russian strikes hit Kyiv and other regions as Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow, while political tension rose in Kyiv over anti-corruption raids and election calls.
Russian forces launched fresh overnight strikes across Ukraine, targeting Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, and Odesa with combined barrages of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. Regional authorities reported over a dozen casualties alongside widespread damage to residential and energy infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged that Ukraine would respond, as Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow.
Simultaneously, political friction deepened in Kyiv following anti-corruption raids conducted at the residence of a senior presidential aide in connection with a money-laundering inquiry. Former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov called for national elections, stating that democracy cannot remain hostage to the war. The Ukrainian parliament also moved to vote on confirming Yevhenii Khmara as the new defense minister.
