Heavy Russian strikes hit Kyiv and regional centers across Ukraine, while former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov urged holding elections amid deepening political debates.

Russian forces launched extensive overnight missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, damaging civilian infrastructure in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Chernihiv. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed thirteen fatalities and dozens of injuries in Kyiv, while Il Sole 24 Ore reported twelve dead. Additional deaths were recorded in Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv. Zelensky vowed retaliation as Russian officials reported downing Ukrainian drones over Moscow.

The military escalation coincides with growing domestic political friction in Kyiv. Former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov publicly called for holding national elections, arguing that democratic governance must not be held hostage by the war. Fedorov's demand arrives as Ukraine's parliament prepares to vote on confirming Yevhenii Khmara as defense minister amid broadening anti-corruption inquiries targeting figures connected to the presidential administration.
