Russian strikes across Ukraine leave at least 23 dead as eastern fighting escalates

Widespread Russian drone and missile strikes across Ukraine have left at least 23 people dead and dozens wounded. Authorities reported damage across multiple regions, including Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia, after approximately 180 drones targeted civilian and commercial infrastructure.

In Kyiv and surrounding areas, overnight bombardments killed at least 15 people, with local officials describing the assault as "one of the most tragic attacks" recorded so far. Emergency services in Dnipropetrovsk reported five fatalities and 16 injuries across five districts, including a drone strike on a gas station near Kryvyi Rih that killed three people, among them an eight-year-old child.

Concurrently, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its forces captured two Donetsk settlements, Vasyutinske and Toretsk. Ukrainian military reports acknowledged fierce battles along the eastern front without confirming territorial losses.
