Russia launches widespread strikes across Ukraine as domestic political pressures mount
Russian overnight strikes caused widespread damage across Ukraine as former Defense Minister Fedorov called for national elections.
Russian forces launched a coordinated overnight assault utilizing cruise missiles, ballistic weapons, and drones across several Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odessa, and Chernihiv. The strikes caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, power outages, and over a dozen fatalities. In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed retaliation as Ukrainian air defenses intercepted multiple drones targeted at Moscow.
Domestically, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called for national elections, arguing that democracy must persist despite the war. Ukrainian lawmakers are set to vote on confirming Yevhenii Khmara as the new defense minister amid additional scrutiny from anti-corruption operations targeting figures associated with the administration.
