Red weather alert triggered in eastern Spain amid torrential rain warning

Eastern Spain issued red weather alerts and ES-Alert notifications due to torrential rain, triggering school suspensions, store closures, and localized power outages.
Regional authorities in eastern Spain issued emergency mobile notifications on Thursday following red meteorological alerts for severe rainfall and storms across the provinces of Valencia, Castellón, and Tarragona.
The Generalitat Valenciana warned of "extraordinary danger," advising residents to avoid travel, steer clear of ravines, and seek higher ground if water levels rise. In response to the extreme weather conditions, local municipalities suspended classes at schools and universities. Supermarket operator Consum announced the temporary closure of over 200 stores and three logistics hubs across the affected regions starting Thursday afternoon to ensure safety.
Torrential downpours overnight intensified along Castellón's coast, causing localized power outages and triggering hydrological alerts. The town of Aín recorded over 150 liters of rainfall per square meter.
