Artificial intelligence and automated systems are transforming modern combat doctrine, from drone warfare in Ukraine to strike planning in China.

Artificial intelligence and automated systems are increasingly dictating contemporary military strategy across global battlegrounds. Former tech executive Eric Schmidt characterized Ukraine's battlefield deployment of autonomous systems as a historic turning point in warfare, a stance echoed by former Ukrainian defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who framed the conflict as a continuous "technological war" driven by drone innovations.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian intelligence recently identified a US-manufactured microcomputer inside a new Russian missile, pointing to onboard AI guidance capabilities. In East Asia, China's armed forces have begun deploying specialized AI tools to coordinate large-scale, synchronized airstrikes across multiple targets. Despite rapid automation, operational limitations remain; commercial policy continues to restrict Ukrainian forces from deploying SpaceX's Starlink satellite network for deep strikes inside Russian territory.
