Portugal's parliament has rejected a censure motion brought by the far-right Chega party after the main opposition Socialist Party abstained during the vote.

Portugal's parliament has officially rejected a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party against the minority government. The motion was prompted by controversies involving the Ministry of Internal Administration.

The governing coalition voted against the initiative, while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained, ensuring the measure failed following a three-hour debate.

After the vote, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega for filing a motion bound to fail and faulted the Socialists for abstaining. Leitão Amaro remarked that voters would deliver a political judgment on Chega's actions. He also emphasized that the government intends to stick to its strategy of negotiating parliamentary support on a case-by-case basis without picking a preferred partner.
