Portugal's parliament has defeated a censure motion introduced by the far-right Chega party after the main opposition Socialist Party abstained.

Portugal’s parliament has rejected a motion of censure introduced by the far-right Chega party against the minority administration following a three-hour debate.

The initiative focused on recent controversies involving Internal Administration Minister Margarida Blasco. The ruling coalition voted against the measure, while the main opposition Socialist Party abstained, guaranteeing the motion's failure.

Closing the parliamentary debate, Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro criticized Chega for introducing a measure destined to fail and targeted the Socialists for abstaining. Leitão Amaro noted that voters would make a "political judgment" regarding Chega's actions, while reiterating that the executive plans to pass legislation through case-by-case negotiations without choosing a "preferred partner" in parliament.
