Portugal has denied before the ECHR that former Prime Minister José Sócrates's rights were violated in the Operação Marquês case.

The Portuguese state has rejected allegations that former Prime Minister José Sócrates suffered human rights violations during the "Operação Marquês" corruption case.

In a official statement released by the Ministry of Justice, Portuguese authorities confirmed they submitted a formal response to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ahead of a July 23 deadline. Lisbon argued that no breach of the European Convention on Human Rights occurred during the legal proceedings involving the former leader, responding directly to a series of questions posed by the Strasbourg-based court.
