Poland faces an escalating legal crisis following the suspension of Constitutional Tribunal President Święczkowski, sparking Warsaw protests and emergency talks by President Nawrocki.

The political conflict in Poland intensified on Friday after Constitutional Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski was suspended, triggering street protests and emergency government consultations.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk's administration sought to lift judicial immunity for top tribunal officials to pursue criminal charges, leading to the court chief's suspension. In response, demonstrators attempted to force entry into the tribunal building in Warsaw, prompting riot police to secure the institution's grounds.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki cut short an overseas trip to return to Warsaw and convene parliamentary leaders. Nawrocki declared that the "constitutional order has been violated" and cited heightened risks to internal security. Nationalist opposition figures denounced the tribunal chief's removal as an unconstitutional coup, while government allies maintained the measure was essential to restore the rule of law.
