Pentagon requests $18.2 billion to replenish missile interceptors
The US Pentagon has requested $18.2 billion to replace Patriot, THAAD, and Tomahawk missiles as part of a $67 billion emergency spending package sent to Congress.
The US Department of Defense has submitted a $67 billion emergency funding request for the current fiscal year, which includes $18.2 billion earmarked to replenish depleted stockpiles of advanced interceptors and missiles. According to congressional documents, the allocated funds would replace weaponry utilised in recent operations, including Navy Tomahawk cruise missiles, the Army's Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors, and advanced Patriot systems.
The request highlights the operational strain on American military inventory following heightened conflict in the Middle East linked to Iran. Congressional lawmakers are expected to review the supplemental spending package to determine the final allocation for US defense reserves.
