Lidl Finland has started using AI-generated imagery in its discount flyers, labeling synthetic promotional visuals with an AI tag alongside updated staff guidelines.

German supermarket chain Lidl has begun incorporating artificial intelligence to generate promotional imagery for its marketing materials in Finland, according to Finnish media reports.

Discount flyers published by Lidl Finland now feature images generated by AI, which are labeled with an explicit "AI" tag to inform consumers. The generated visuals include items placed alongside products such as coffee packages and butter croissants. In conjunction with the rollout, the retailer has provided updated guidelines to its staff regarding the use and disclosure of synthetic content in advertising campaigns.

The move reflects broader retail industry efforts to integrate generative artificial intelligence into commercial design while maintaining transparency through clear visual disclosures.
