Italian space robot undergoes testing on Mount Etna's lunar-like terrain

Italian engineers are testing a lunar robot on Mount Etna, using the volcano's rugged terrain to simulate conditions on the Moon.
Italian engineers have begun testing a space robot on the slopes of Mount Etna to prepare for future lunar missions. The Sicilian volcano's rugged volcanic landscape and rocky, irregular terrain closely resemble conditions found on the Moon's surface, providing an optimal environment for evaluating space exploration hardware.
Giuseppe D'Amore, head of technology development projects, noted that testing on Etna allows researchers to evaluate whether their design approaches are effective before mission deployment. The trials focus on testing the robot's mobility and system durability across unpredictable geological formations.
