Israeli security agencies are investigating potential vetting lapses after an Omani co-pilot allegedly stabbed a captain on a Flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv.

Israeli security agencies have opened an investigation into how an Omani co-pilot bypassed mandatory vetting procedures before allegedly attempting to crash a Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai flight.

The aircraft, carrying roughly 180 passengers, landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, after the co-pilot stabbed the Emirati captain. Israeli fighter jets were scrambled, and the aircraft was barred from entering Israeli airspace after transmitting a hijacking emergency code. A secondary pilot landed the plane safely.

In response, Israeli officials requested a freeze on incoming Flydubai operations, prompting at least one subsequent flight to turn back mid-route. Authorities are examining screening lapses and how a weapon was brought aboard, with Foreign Minister Israel Katz framing the incident as a "jihadist attack."
