The IMF's Kristalina Georgieva warned that high public debt and geopolitical shocks have pushed some countries "out of the safe zone," calling for urgent fiscal action.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has urged global governments to take swift action against expanding national debt, elevated interest rates, and ongoing energy disruptions.

Speaking to Bloomberg Television, Georgieva highlighted that fiscal pressures stemming from post-pandemic spending and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have severely strained state balance sheets. She noted that elevated expenditures have pushed several countries "out of the safe zone." To prevent future economic instability, the IMF chief emphasized the necessity for policymakers to rebuild fiscal buffers and prioritize disciplined spending before macroeconomic conditions worsen further.
