Hungary's Tisza Party selects presidential nominee ahead of parliamentary vote

Hungary's opposition Tisza Party faction convened Saturday to choose its presidential nominee ahead of Tuesday's parliamentary vote.
Hungary's opposition Tisza Party parliamentary faction met on Saturday to select its nominee for the upcoming presidential election. Faction leader Andrea Bujdosó confirmed that lawmakers are choosing among three prospective candidates, whose names have not been publicly disclosed.
The selection process precedes the official nomination deadline scheduled for Monday at 10:00 AM local time. The National Assembly is set to vote on the new head of state on Tuesday, August 11. The election comes after former President Tamás Sulyok's mandate concluded on July 20 following the entry into force of the 17th Amendment to the Fundamental Law.
Separately, the National Assembly will hold an extraordinary session later in August to elect the head of the National Asset Recovery Office, with candidate applications open through August 16.
