Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party parliamentary group met on Saturday to determine its nominee for the country's upcoming presidential election. Faction members are choosing among three short-listed candidates prior to the official nomination deadline set for Monday at 10:00 AM.
The National Assembly is scheduled to vote on the new head of state on Tuesday, August 11. The parliamentary vote follows the departure of former President Tamás Sulyok, whose mandate officially ended on July 20 after the implementation of the 17th Amendment to the Fundamental Law. Tisza leadership has not publicly revealed the identity of the prospective nominees ahead of the final selection.
