Hungary's opposition Tisza Party weighs presidential candidates ahead of vote

Hungary's Tisza Party faction met to select its presidential nominee from three candidates ahead of Monday's nomination deadline and a parliamentary vote on Tuesday.
Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party parliamentary faction met on Saturday to select its nominee for the upcoming presidential vote. According to faction leader Andrea Bujdosó, lawmakers are choosing from three unnamed candidates to meet the official nomination deadline of 10:00 AM on Monday.
The National Assembly is scheduled to elect the new head of state on Tuesday, August 11. The position became vacant after former President Tamás Sulyok’s term ended on July 20 following the entry into force of the 17th Amendment to the Fundamental Law.
Additionally, parliament will hold an extraordinary session later in August to vote on the leadership of the National Asset Recovery Office, with candidate applications open through August 16.
