Hungary's transport ministry recovered 2.3 billion forints in a toll audit and expanded its probe into long-term private tech contractors like Gábor Emőri.

Hungary's Ministry of Transport and Investment has recovered 2.3 billion forints from a private equity fund linked to businessman Lőrinc Mészáros, following an audit of previous state acquisitions.

The reimbursement relates to transactions conducted under former minister János Lázár, where the government spent 64.5 billion forints purchasing three corporate entities involved in the national electronic toll collection system. Transport Minister Dávid Vitézy described the repayment as progress in recovering state assets.

Following the audit, authorities are broadening their investigation into long-term private contractors of the toll infrastructure. Scrutiny has now turned to technology entrepreneur Gábor Emőri, who spent 12 years developing and operating key components of the country's electronic toll network.
