Hungary's government recovered 2.27 billion forints from toll system contracts and broadened its investigation into major IT infrastructure deals.

Hungary's Ministry of Transport and Investments has recovered 2.27 billion forints for the state treasury following an audit of toll system transactions executed under the previous administration.

According to Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy, a private equity fund associated with businessman Lőrinc Mészáros returned the funds after officials reviewed agreements negotiated under former minister János Lázár. The state had previously spent 64.5 billion forints to acquire three electronic toll collection companies.

Following the initial reimbursement, the Tisza administration expanded its investigation to include public IT contracts awarded to businessman Gábor Emőri. Emőri spent twelve years building and operating key elements of the national electronic toll collection network, accumulating substantial wealth through government projects. Investigators are currently examining past public procurement contracts from his tenure to identify additional state funds that may be recoverable.
