Hungary has recovered nearly 2.3 billion forints from a toll system deal as officials broaden asset recovery efforts to inspect state IT contracts.

Hungarian Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy announced that a private equity fund associated with businessman Lőrinc Mészáros has reimbursed nearly 2.3 billion forints to the state treasury. The repayment follows an investigation into previous government transactions conducted under former minister János Lázár, where the state spent 64.5 billion forints to acquire three companies linked to the national electronic tolling network.

Following the recovery of these funds, cabinet officials are scrutinizing state IT contracts involving Gábor Emőri, one of Hungary's wealthiest figures. Emőri spent over a decade developing and managing key components of the toll infrastructure. Hungarian authorities are auditing historical public contracts from his tenure to determine whether additional assets can be reclaimed for the public budget.
