Gulf states back proposal for voluntary Strait of Hormuz transit fees

Persian Gulf nations are supporting an Omani plan allowing Iran to collect voluntary fees from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to end shipping disruptions.
Persian Gulf nations are supporting an Omani proposal that would allow Iran to collect voluntary service fees from vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz. The measure is aimed at restoring maritime stability and ending severe disruptions to international oil shipping stemming from military conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Under the plan, Tehran and Muscat would jointly oversee navigation through the strategic waterway. However, Washington has rejected the initiative, demanding a return to pre-war free transit and arguing that imposing tolls on international shipping would be illegal.
