Germany reports a decline in counterfeit banknotes and asylum applications, while political polling shows the AfD extending its lead over the CDU/CSU.

Recent economic and security indicators highlight shifting trends across Germany. According to the Deutsche Bundesbank, authorities seized approximately 30,000 counterfeit euro banknotes during the first half of the year, down from 36,610 in the same period in 2025.

The financial data coincides with ongoing political debates. Polling from Deutschlandtrend shows the Alternative for Germany (AfD) widening its lead over the CDU/CSU alliance, alongside growing public openness to selective cooperation. In security affairs, Green Party politician Konstantin von Notz targeted Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt over recent drone incidents, warning that unclear official messaging "only encourages the Russians." Meanwhile, official figures from the Federal Ministry of the Interior show first-time asylum applications fell to 4,311 in July, almost half the figure recorded in July 2025.
