Mass funeral held in Gaza as Jordan warns of Jerusalem escalation
A mass funeral was held in Gaza City for 112 Palestinians recovered from 2023 strike rubble, as Jordan warned of threats to Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa compound.
Gaza City hosted a mass funeral on Tuesday for 112 Palestinians whose remains were recently retrieved from under rubble caused by an Israeli airstrike in November 2023. The victims, primarily women and children from the Hassayna and Abu Sharia families, were recovered during a two-week excavation in the Sabra neighbourhood.
Simultaneously, U.S. President Donald Trump's Peace Council announced that Israeli forces will remain in Gaza until Hamas completely fulfills its disarmament obligations, following discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In regional diplomatic developments, Jordan called an emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers. Amman warned that government-backed incursions by Jewish extremists pose an "imminent" threat of an Israeli takeover at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque compound, which could "trigger a religious conflict".
