Education and cultural politics take center stage in Germany as eastern state elections approach and administrative challenges persist.

Debates surrounding education, regional identity, and political culture are intensifying across Germany ahead of key eastern state elections. Teachers in eastern state schools have expressed growing concern over far-right symbols and extremist behavior among students. In response to gaps in historical knowledge, federal commissioner Evelyn Zupke recommended mandatory school visits to former East German memorial sites.

Identity politics also dominates campaign discussions. In Saxony-Anhalt, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party proposed stripping public funding from cultural programs, including Holocaust memorial projects and regional theaters, that it deems "anti-German."

Concurrently, Berlin's education sector faces structural pressures. Administrative data from the Berlin Senate revealed that nearly 400 teachers have been continuously absent due to illness for over a year.
