France's Constitutional Council validated conditional assisted dying legislation while striking down a proposed social media ban for under-15s as unconstitutional.

France’s Constitutional Council has validated legislation permitting conditional assisted dying alongside an emergency agricultural law, while striking down a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

The court ruled that determining major societal reforms falls under parliamentary jurisdiction, provided constitutional rights are respected. To address ethical concerns, the justices added three interpretative reservations to the assisted dying law, including a conscience clause that allows private and faith-based healthcare facilities to opt out of performing end-of-life procedures.

In contrast, the court struck down the primary provision restricting social media access for children under 15, ruling that a blanket prohibition constituted an excessive restriction on public liberties. French President Emmanuel Macron commended the court's approval of the assisted dying framework.
