France's Constitutional Council has validated assisted dying legislation while rejecting a signature bill to ban social media for under-15s.

France’s Constitutional Council has validated legislation establishing a conditional right to assisted dying while striking down a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

The high court ruled that setting end-of-life rules falls within parliamentary discretion. However, justices issued interpretative reservations to guarantee conscience rights for private and faith-based healthcare facilities, allowing Catholic institutions to opt out. President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the validation, stating that the decision "completes an exemplary democratic debate."

Concurrently, the council invalidated the core provision of a separate bill attempting a blanket social media ban for children under 15, declaring it a disproportionate restriction on public liberties. The ruling effectively halts a key presidential legislative priority.
