France's Constitutional Council approved an assisted dying law with conscience reservations while striking down a proposed social media ban for under-15s.

France’s Constitutional Council has delivered rulings on several flagship legislative initiatives, fully approving a landmark assisted dying bill while striking down a proposed social media ban for minors under 15.

The constitutional judges validated the end-of-life legislation, attaching interpretive reservations to clarify conscience protections for healthcare workers and private institutions, including Catholic medical facilities. Additionally, the court approved key measures in an emergency agricultural bill.

However, the council invalidated Article 1 of a separate law aimed at prohibiting social media access for children under 15. The court ruled that the general restriction was disproportionate and violated constitutional freedoms, dismantling a key legislative ambition of President Emmanuel Macron’s administration.
