French court validates assisted dying law while striking down social media ban for minors

France's Constitutional Council has approved legislation creating a conditional right to assisted dying, clearing the final legal hurdle for its promulgation. The ruling includes three interpretative reservations, notably establishing a conscience clause that permits private and religious healthcare facilities to refuse administering end-of-life procedures. President Emmanuel Macron praised the decision, stating that it "completes an exemplary democratic debate."

In a separate decision, the constitutional court invalidated the primary provision of a digital regulation law seeking a general ban on social media access for minors under 15 years old. The justices determined that such an outright restriction disproportionately infringes upon public liberties, effectively striking down a key pillar of the administration's youth protection initiative.
