French authorities report over 14,000 fire starts and 400 arrests this season, while Greece battles renewed flare-ups west of Athens.

French and Greek authorities continue to manage the aftermath and ongoing risks of summer wildfires. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced that 14,540 fire starts have been recorded this season. French law enforcement has arrested over 400 individuals, including 156 minors, with 36 currently remaining in detention.

In Gironde, residents of Le Porge have begun returning to inspect homes devastated by recent blazes. Meanwhile, fire services in Greece report improving conditions west of Athens after five days of containment efforts that saw thousands of hectares burned. However, aerial water-bombing operations resumed near Megara following afternoon flare-ups.
