A new wildfire in Aude, France, burned 100 hectares, while Greek firefighters responded to afternoon flare-ups west of Athens.

Firefighters across Southern Europe continue to combat persistent wildfires, with new blazes emerging in France and crews tackling rekindled spots in Greece.

In southern France, a new wildfire in the Aude department burned over 100 hectares near Montséret. Authorities deployed 240 firefighters and ten aircraft, ordering residents in Saint-André-de-Roquelongue to shelter in place. Meanwhile, returning evacuees in Gironde inspected heavily damaged properties.

In Greece, emergency crews entered their fifth consecutive day tackling fires west of Athens. Although fire officials reported marked overall improvement, aerial water-bombing resumed near Megara following afternoon flare-ups across devastated forests and farmland.
