Finland prepares internal border controls and cuts low-income holiday funding

Finland is preparing potential internal border controls while ending ministry funding for low-income supported holidays at year-end.
Finland’s government is advancing several policy changes affecting border security and social support. Interior Minister Mari Rantanen announced on social media platform X that preparations have begun to potentially reinstate internal border controls, stating that decisions can be taken quickly if required to ensure national security.
Separately, supported holiday programs for low-income residents will end at the close of the year. Non-profit organization Hyvinvointilomat ry confirmed that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has discontinued funding for the five-day supported breaks, which previously provided subsidized accommodation, full board, and guided activities for disadvantaged individuals and families.
