Ferry fire off Mykonos triggers rescue of 29 people

All 29 people aboard the Greek vehicle ferry Blue Carrier 2 were safely evacuated to Tinos after a fire broke out near Mykonos.
Greek authorities evacuated 29 people from the cargo and vehicle ferry Blue Carrier 2 on Friday after a fire broke out on board north of the island of Mykonos.
The Greek-flagged vessel was en route from Piraeus through several Aegean islands when the blaze started in its garage area. The Hellenic Coast Guard, alongside the Fire Service, deployed multiple vessels and firefighting speedboats to control the flames and assist with the emergency.
All 28 crew members and one passenger were transferred safely to coast guard craft and taken to the nearby island of Tinos. Shipowner Blue Star Ferries confirmed that no injuries were recorded during the incident. Footage released by the Panhellenic Union of Merchant Marine Seamen showed crew members attempting to suppress the fire on deck as alarms sounded. Firefighting operations remain underway.
