New European Union rules under the landmark AI Act require clear labeling for AI-generated content, chatbots, and deepfakes.

The European Union's AI Act has begun taking effect, establishing the world's first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence. Under the initial wave of provisions, companies operating within the EU must ensure that chatbots, virtual assistants, and synthetic media like deepfakes clearly disclose their artificial origin to users.

The regulation aims to safeguard the integrity of human decision-making and foster digital trust. AI ethics advisor Paolo Benanti observed that "transparency is the zero point of ethics" regarding the new requirements. Businesses face mandatory transparency rules designed to prevent deception and mandate clear labeling of AI-generated photos, videos, and interactive systems across member states.
