EU interior ministers express solidarity with Spain after Ceuta migration influx

EU interior ministers held an emergency meeting following a massive migration surge into Ceuta, expressing solidarity with Spain while postponing policy debates to autumn.
European Union interior ministers held an emergency videoconference on Tuesday to address the sudden migration influx into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. An estimated 60,000 to 72,000 people crossed into the territory from Morocco in late July, testing European border coordination.
Following initial political spats among member states, ministers displayed a renewed sense of calm and cooperation. European Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner stated that there was "entire solidarity with Spain" among participants. Despite the display of unity, the ministers deferred substantive debates on proposed new European migration measures until autumn. Officials reported that the vast majority of migrants have already returned to Morocco, leaving only a few hundred in Ceuta.
