Ebola outbreak in Congo surpasses 3,000 cases as WHO warns of rapid spread
Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have topped 3,000, with over 1,350 deaths reported amid rapid transmission.
Health officials in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have recorded more than 3,000 confirmed cases of Ebola, with the death toll rising past 1,350. Local authorities updated the figures over the weekend, reflecting a sharp surge from previously reported numbers.
According to the World Health Organization, the virus is propagating significantly faster than during the major 2018–2019 outbreak, which took ten months to surpass two thousand cases—a threshold reached in just two months during the current epidemic. Medical personnel report that the rate of transmission is outpacing available treatment and prevention capabilities on the ground. This marks the country's seventeenth Ebola outbreak, presenting severe challenges to health containment efforts in the region.
