Canada plans to unveil a dollar-for-dollar tariff response and business support package after the US enacted 50 percent tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian imports.

The United States has enacted 50 percent tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian goods after bilateral trade negotiations collapsed. The levies, imposed under Section 338, affect approximately five percent of Canada's annual exports to the US.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended trade talks and pledged to match the American measures "dollar for dollar." Ottawa is scheduled to unveil its full counter-response on Tuesday. The proposed package will combine reciprocal import taxes on US goods with financial aid programs designed to protect domestic companies and workers. US President Donald Trump warned that Canadian countermeasures would trigger further trade sanctions.
