BMW plans to cut roughly 8,000 global jobs by the end of 2027 through voluntary departure packages, focusing on non-production roles.

German automaker BMW plans to reduce its global workforce by around 8,000 positions by the end of 2027, representing approximately five percent of its 150,000 employees. According to company sources, the reductions will focus on administrative and development roles rather than factory production lines.

Beginning in October, BMW will offer voluntary departure packages to roughly 40,000 of its 85,000 employees in Germany. Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Milan Nedeljković informed staff of the restructuring measures on Wednesday, emphasizing that compulsory redundancies will be avoided.

The move comes as European vehicle manufacturers face growing financial pressure and increased competition from Chinese rivals.
