At least 27 killed in South Africa bar shootings as police investigate wave of violence

At least 27 people have died in two mass shootings in South Africa, while police in Johannesburg also investigate the potential presence of a serial killer.
South African authorities are investigating multiple incidents of deadly violence across the country following two mass shootings and the discovery of a body over the weekend.
In Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg, armed men opened fire at a bar on Saturday evening, killing 17 people and injuring 15 others. According to police, eight suspects armed with assault rifles and pistols fled the scene in two vehicles, leaving the motive currently unknown. A separate shooting in a township near Cape Town left ten people dead and eleven wounded.
Additionally, police in Johannesburg recovered the body of a woman on Saturday, marking the tenth such discovery in recent months. Local police officials noted similarities across the cases and stated they could not rule out the presence of a serial killer.
