The US Supreme Court has temporarily lifted a lower court injunction, allowing construction of a $400 million White House ballroom to continue while judges review the case.

The US Supreme Court has temporarily cleared the way for construction to proceed on a planned $400 million ballroom at the White House.

In an administrative order issued on Friday, Chief Justice John Roberts paused a lower court ruling that had halted significant portions of the development. The decision grants the justices time to evaluate an emergency application from President Donald Trump's administration, which is seeking to continue work while litigating an ongoing lawsuit brought by a heritage preservation organisation. The dispute centres on compliance with regulatory oversight standards for modifications to the historic complex.
