The US Supreme Court has temporarily allowed construction on the $400 million White House ballroom to resume while legal proceedings continue.

The United States Supreme Court has permitted construction on a $400 million ballroom at the White House to temporarily resume while legal challenges move forward.

In an order issued by Chief Justice John Roberts, a five-justice conservative majority lifted a lower court injunction that had temporarily halted the expansion. The legal action, brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, claims the project inflicts permanent harm on the historical architecture of the executive mansion.

While justices indicated that the administration has a high probability of ultimately prevailing in court, they underscored that this interim decision does not represent a final ruling on the legal merits of the lawsuit. The decision allows work to restart, potentially enabling the structural frame of the building to be completed prior to a definitive verdict from lower courts.
