US president Donald Trump hosts Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Washington

US President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Washington for a three-day state visit, marking Xi's first official state visit to the United States in over a decade. In an unusual diplomatic gesture, Trump personally greeted the Chinese leader at the aircraft steps upon his arrival.

During bilateral discussions at the White House, the two leaders addressed major global security issues, including the war in Ukraine, tension in the Middle East, and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The talks followed a recent request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asking Washington to urge Beijing to use its leverage over Moscow toward de-escalation. Analysts suggest China could leverage potential policy adjustments regarding Russia to seek economic or trade concessions from the US.
