Trump and Xi discuss Ukraine and global security at White House summit

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping held discussions at the White House addressing key international issues, including the war in Ukraine, Middle East conflicts, and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The high-level meeting took place during Xi's first state visit to the United States in over ten years.

The talks followed a prior meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who urged Washington to press Beijing into using its diplomatic influence over Moscow to achieve de-escalation in Europe. Observers suggested China might seek trade or economic concessions from the US administration in exchange for adjusting its diplomatic posture toward Russia. Trump opened the visit with a rare diplomatic protocol by greeting Xi directly at his aircraft.
