UN member states agreed on defining autonomous weapons, while Germany outlined guidelines for military AI and rejected Palantir in favor of an internal platform.

A total of 128 United Nations member states meeting in Geneva reached a consensus on a formal definition for autonomous weapon systems. The development coincided with joint warnings from the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross cautioning that "the autonomous targeting of humans by machines" risks crossing a critical moral threshold.

Concurrently, Germany's Ministry of Defence clarified its operational guidelines, affirming that while "the decision on the use of military force remains with humans," AI-assisted semi-autonomous weapon functions may execute independently depending on context. Additionally, the Bundeswehr rejected software from US provider Palantir, opting instead to build an in-house AI data analysis platform to secure technological sovereignty and enhance decision-making under time pressure.
