Ukraine prepares for talks with Trump team amid US midterm preparations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced upcoming engagement with representatives of US President Donald Trump, aiming to advance diplomatic avenues alongside ongoing military efforts. Zelensky stated that Washington shares Kyiv's assessment of frontline dynamics and the necessity of long-range strikes, emphasizing efforts to ensure war does not remain the sole option.

The planned diplomatic discussions take place as Washington prepares for congressional midterm elections. According to reporting citing Reuters, senior advisers have urged President Trump to avoid escalating tensions with Iran prior to the vote to minimize political risks for the Republican Party. The outcome of the upcoming midterms could alter the balance of power in the US Congress, potentially impacting future American foreign policy and military aid commitments to Ukraine.
