Trump urges Ukraine and Russia to negotiate end to war before winter

US President Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a peace agreement before winter, following diplomatic engagements with both leaders.

Speaking after a phone call with Putin and a meeting with Zelensky, Trump expressed confidence that Moscow is seeking a resolution, stating, "He wants a deal and, if Zelensky wants a deal, it would be great." Trump emphasized that both Washington and Kyiv share the goal of halting the conflict in the coming months.

Zelensky characterized his discussions with the American leader as positive and productive, confirming a mutual desire to end Russian aggression ahead of the winter season. Neither side, however, outlined specific terms or frameworks required to initiate formal peace negotiations.
