Thousands demonstrated against the German government in Plauen, while SPD lead candidate Steffen Krach proposed police controls against rent gouging in Berlin.

Thousands of protesters gathered in the eastern German city of Plauen on Saturday to demand the resignation of the federal government. The rally, organized by the initiative "Einigkeit für Deutschland / Projekt M1llion", drew approximately 10,000 participants according to police estimates, alongside around 400 counter-demonstrators.

Concurrently, regional policy proposals sparked debate in state politics. In Berlin, SPD lead candidate Steffen Krach proposed deploying police controls and imposing heavy fines to combat illegal rent gouging. Krach also advocated for creating a state rent register to track excessive housing charges.
