Emergency teams in Nepal and Tibet are searching for over 1,000 missing people following catastrophic flash floods caused by a glacial collapse along the Himalayan border.

Rescuers across Nepal and Tibet are searching for between 1,000 and 1,500 missing individuals following catastrophic flash flooding triggered by a glacial collapse along the Himalayan border. Nepali authorities confirmed that the domestic death toll has risen to 469, while Chinese officials reported three fatalities in Tibet. Initial casualty reports varied as emergency crews struggled to reach isolated mountain areas.

The surge of mud and water destroyed villages, transport links, water infrastructure, and power projects. Hundreds of foreign visitors and local workers remain unaccounted for. Rescue operations remain hampered by ruined infrastructure and ongoing concerns regarding potential secondary flooding.
